The 4-Step Process I Use for Every Client Project
Every successful project follows a framework. Not a rigid template — a repeatable process that ensures nothing gets missed, deadlines get met, and the client stays in the loop from day one. Here's the exact 4-step process I use.
Over 3 years and dozens of client projects, this process has saved me from scope creep, missed deadlines, and endless revision loops. It keeps the work sharp and the client happy.
Step 1 — Discovery & Strategy
Before any design or code, I spend time understanding the business — not just the website. Who's the audience? What's the main conversion goal? What are the competitors doing? This is where most projects fail. Skipping this step means you're just building a pretty shell.
In this phase, I run:
- A kickoff call to align on goals, scope, and success metrics
- A competitor audit of 3-5 sites in the same niche
- A content map — every page, every section, every CTA
Step 2 — Planning & Wireframe
With the strategy locked, I move to structure. Before touching any design tools, I sketch the entire site as a wireframe. This is a black-and-white layout that defines hierarchy, flow, and conversion paths — no colors, no fonts, no distractions.
For every project, I deliver a full page-by-page wireframe in Figma. The client reviews and approves the structure before we spend a single hour on design. This alone saves weeks of rework.
Step 3 — Build & Iterate
Now the fun part. I build the site with a clean, semantic stack — custom themes, modern CSS, minimal plugins, and a focus on performance from day one.
During the build, I share weekly progress via Loom videos and deploy every milestone to a staging URL. The client can click through the live site at any time, leave comments, and request tweaks in real time. No end-of-project surprises.
Step 4 — Launch, Train & Support
Launch day is never the end. I hand off the finished site with:
- A Loom walkthrough so the team knows how to update content
- A post-launch checklist — SEO, analytics, security, backups
- A support window of 30 days for any bug fixes or small tweaks
Why This Process Works
Every step exists because I've seen projects fail without it. Discovery prevents "we built the wrong thing". Wireframing prevents "the design doesn't match the vision". Iterative builds prevent "it's not what we expected". And post-launch support prevents "it broke and no one knows why".
Whether you're a solo founder or an established business, this framework scales to your needs. If you want to see it applied to a real project, check out my case studies — each one follows this exact process.
